Racing through the week

No posting this week, because I haven’t slowed down long enough. The fun started Sunday, when Ben and I walked (with Dave and Jessica) in the MacAttack 3k, a charity walk for the Ronald McDonald House. Despite rainy conditions, we had a great time, especially eating the pizza afterwards. In the meantime, Jason was racing his motorbike. Although he didn’t finish due to a broken clutch cable, he still managed to take second!
Our days this week have been spent furiously getting enough work done to take a week off, while our nights have been spent running errands and doing chores to prepare for our trip.
In Benny’s world, things have been rough. These molars are still giving him trouble. He’s been drooling so much, he’s breaking out all over his cheeks and chin. I hope the teeth break soon, for everyone’s sake.
We’re in the final lap now to our vacation, and we ended today on a good note. I visited a co-worker who had a baby yesterday, and there is nothing like holding a new born to perk up your day…except, returning to work to a bouquet of flowers, a promotion gift from my mentor!
I’m not sure when we will post again, so I will leave you with pics of sweet Benny (in his adorable gift from Auntie Lisa) enjoying a cold, sweet treat.

Happy 4th!

The yard bites back

You know that one neighbor that has the shaggy lawn and man-eating weeds? The one where everyday when you pass, you shake your head, embarrassed for them? Yeah, well, we are those neighbors. See, neither of us have a very green thumb, or frankly much interest in weeding, fertilizing, pruning etc. When we consider work, family time, dirt biking, scrapbooking, vacations, or even sitting on our bums, the yard just doesn’t make the priority list. However, we do feel the shame when we hear those banjos playing in our yard. My way of dealing with the shame is by nagging Jason. Last week, he responded to my nags with “Why are the weeds my job? Why don’t you do something about it?” Drat. He really has a point. I don’t want him to, but I must begrudgingly admit he has a point. So, yesterday I exposed myself to weed eating chemicals to attack the inappropriate driveway greenery. This evening, after putting Ben to bed I found Jason’s (I guess they are mine too) loppers, and pruned away the worst of the offenders. On a roll, I donned my pink work gloves and started pulling. When my muscles were sore and my pants all wet (it rained earlier), I returned to the house to discover the swollen, blotchy rash all over my arms. The weeds, it seems, are fighting back.

Three years

Three years ago today, Jason and I said “I do” to fidelity, to children, to friendship, to respect, to a life together, to each other. The last three years have taught us that despite an ever growing love, marriage isn’t easy. However, our marriage is worth working for.
I love you, Jason. I love our growing family. I would marry you again.
Love, your bird
