Thums up!

to Thums Up soda! A girl at work brought some in for others to taste, and I begged my own cup. It is made by Co*ca Cola and marketed in India. It tastes much like classic coke, but with a ginger kick! With a little Internet research, I found that it is marketed as a “manly soda.” If you are interested, check out this humorous review: Knowledge for Thirst.
It is also available locally at the Indian grocery store. Darn you delicious and exotic soda! Why must you entice me to your nectar when I am trying so valiantly to cut out the empty calories you represent?
Heading back to my hovel of self-deprivation…

G-blellow

I’ve been working with Ben to learn his colors. I obviously don’t have a degree in early childhood education, so maybe I’m going about things all wrong. The method that makes sense to me is to first get him to sort the colors–showing that he knows the difference, and then move on to identifying the colors. So, I’ve been sitting down with him and his brightly colored, wooden beads, and working with him for short periods of time (all his attention span will allow). After only playing the “game” a few times, he can easily sort the colors (as long as he doesn’t get distracted by stacking the beads). I am now working on naming the colors as we sort them, and trying to get him to repeat me or hand me certain colors. At times, he seems to really get it, but then he starts making up words. If he doesn’t know the color, he declares it “g-blellow”-any mix of consonants, as long as it includes the fun to say “ellow”.
We had a really fun night with Ben. We played itsy-bitsy spider, ring around the rosie, “I’m going to get you”, and we danced. Of course, we got him good and riled up right before bed. He was so wacky, that he started running in circles until he fell to the ground in giggles…again and again and again. I can only hope he does it again when the video camera’s batteries are not dead.
Finally, some pictures from playing the other night between bath and bed time.

Can you believe this was our first time making smores all summer? And Ben’s first smores ever? Amazing I know.

It was a quiet weekend here. Lots of relaxing, chores, errands, the usual weekend fare. We took a long bike ride to the park, which as true Yogs, we had to cancel out with a huge dinner of brined, smoked pork chops, our Eagle special salad, and grilled potatos (followed by the smores, of course).
