Not a knit blog…

…but WLDs is playing one on the Internet.
As I may have mentioned, my sil Nanc taught me to knit over the holiday. Since then, I have been knitting and frogging (unknitting) nightly. The progress has been slow. I take two steps back for each forward, but I am slowly making progress.
I will introduce you to my WIPs under a few conditions:
1) You don’t make fun of me. I am just learning!
2) You will act surprised if I miraculously get a project completed and present it to you for Christmas.

Explosion!

November 28, 2006 | Filed Under Eaglet | 6 Comments

The last few days/weeks/months have really been an explosion of language in our house, as Ben has begun to express himself verbally. While he is somewhat delayed, I am delighted with his progress. Yep, here’s another installment of cute things Ben says (I’m sure there will be many more too!).

He’s getting on the manners train, asking for “more ______ pease”, accompanied by an angelic smile. Of course, he thinks this means he should automatically get the object of his desire, which is far from reality. When I do deliver the goods, he responds with a 2 syllable blur meant to imply “Thank you.”

Of course, I posted the video last night, but the kid talks up a storm while playing. Last night, he asked “Mama, sit?” and then showed me precisely where. If you wonder if he still has some OCD tendencies, try sitting 6 inches off his mark. He loves playing and watching monster trucks (thanks so much for introducing him to that J). He “counts” making counting sounds, “1-2-3 Go!” Laughs, claps, and says oh-no, crash, and boom when they inevitably hit something or flip over. He also says up and down while they jump.

Jason, who is so awesome if I haven’t mentioned that lately, has been working hard with Ben on proper pronunciation and enunciation. I oft hear him in the other room s-s-s-ing or ch-ch-ch-ing, or getting Ben to repeat the correct pronunciation. He’s has Ben saying “Yes” not “wah” almost all the time.

Ben likes to use his word power on those with less, the dogs. Yes, he is a mirror to ourselves, and mimics us scolding the dogs. In some ways, this is good. For instance, when Roo has stolen and is ripping up yet another tissue, he scolds “Roo. No. Puppy, no!” He also tells Scoutie “No kisses,” when she is loving him too much, which is much preferable to a frustrated smack. Other times, he just randomly yells at the dogs “Puppy get down” or something similar, when they are wandering, snoozing, or otherwise minding their own business.

Ben’s mimicing has also opened my eyes to all the weird sounds I make. There is nothing like hearing a 2 year old ::sigh:: like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, or make funny squeaks and hums like his Mommy (apparently) does while thinking.

The sweetest things he says are hug and kiss when asking for one, and the syllables meant to mean “I love you”, though sometimes just the tone he uses when he rests his hand or head on our shoulders and say “Hello Mama” and “Hi Daddy” can make us melt.

Finally, the funniest thing Ben has said lately (and oh, too often): “Daddy toots” I think you can interpret that yourselves.

Pictures as promised, and even a bonus video!
Here are a few pics left over from Auntie Stacey’s visit–playing with Play Doh:

One of the many joys of living with Ben is seeing the world the way he does and watching the way he plays. One day, he took his bowl of Fruit Loops and transferred them all to his race car. The smart little boy didn’t have to stop playing to grab a snack.

You’d think

November 27, 2006 | Filed Under General | 2 Comments

You’d think with a four day weekend, I would have plenty of time to post.
You’d think I would at least have a few stories from the weekend with Matt and Nancy.
You’d think I would have tons of pictures to post.
You’d think I would also have a list of all the things accomplished in casa de eagle.

Ya, well. You’d be only partly right.
Unlike those that keep the Internet in their pocket, I stayed pretty far from computers this weekend. Little browsing, no posting, and no photo uploads/editing.

We did have a great time with Matt and Nancy. As always, I lamented the distance between us. There was much eating. There was much talking. There was much laughing. There was a little bit of Settlers, chess, knitting, playing at the park, rough housing with Midgey…even a few tears, as the mushy Mommy leaked when Ben said “Hi Auntie” and climbed into Nancy’s lap. As is best, the visit left us wanting more.

Of course, I do have pictures, but as previously mentioned, they are not yet uploaded. Expect them as a mid-week treat.

We did get some stuff accomplished too. There are threshold strips in the basement. There was much progress on a welding project of Jason’s. I learned to knit, and there was slow progress on that front.

In all, it was a great weekend. I only wish it wasn’t over so soon.
