who needs a title?

The weekend started for me with a trip to the grocery store on the way home. It was early afternoon, but I have never seen our little local store so busy. The parking lot was completely full, and the store was wall-to-wall old people. I’m surprised they even let me in, considering that I am under 80 years old. Apparently, warnings of a big storm brought them out of the woodwork (many in their curlers) to stock up. It was a sight to behold, and even the employees were grumbling that it was worse than the Christmas rush.

It probably was good that they made it out early. Friday evening, we got hail, sleet, ice, and finally, thunder snow! The snow continued all weekend, but you won’t hear me complaining. I am too happy that we didn’t get this while Jason was away. My hero took care of the shoveling (with the help of an anonymous good Samaritan neighbor who blew out half of the driveway). I am also happy to report that the roof is hold, though the melt will be the real test.

Not surprisingly, it was a pretty unexciting weekend. We hung out, watched movies (The Departed, Colonial House, and Frontier House), and blew our diets (crab legs, cake, and Coke). I did a bunch of knitting, which I ended up ruining in the final steps < > and a little beading. Benny and I did lots of reading and drawing and trashing the house. I took some really bad pictures of Ben, and Jason took some cool pics of the ice in the dark. I’ll probably post some of these someday.

Are you dying to know what Ben is drawing these days? Well, we have not had another Mickey Mouse sighting. He has drawn lots of puppies and babies, which don’t look much like puppies or babies. In fact, they look a lot alike. They look like smiley faces. To be honest, I am still really impressed with his drawing. I did some research on toddler drawing development, and it is after the –more– if you are interested.

If you know me well, you know that I pace while I talk on the phone. Ben picked up on it this weekend, and turned it into a game. He started following me, and when I turned to pace in the other direction, he became the leader. “This way Mama,” he said and led me around the house.

Also heard this weekend:
“Sit down, me.” — Ben’s way of saying that he was going to sit down.
“Birfday cake! Yea!” — Ben’s response to a cake baking.
“Ben, where’s elephant?” “Lfant sleeping,” — He’s putting his elephant in his crib and under the blankets when he’s done snuggling in the morning.
“PongeBob on?” — The kid is in love with SpongeBob. I don’t know where he learned about him, or why he enjoys a show so obviously over his head, but he loves it.
“I wub you!”

This is going to be a pretty busy work week (meaning working nights) for both of the Eagle adults, but I owe you more posts this week. Expect a picture post and a knitting post to come.

Rain drops keep falling on my head

*Note* Three shorts posts tonight, instead of one with 3 totally unrelated topics. Enjoy.

Driving home Monday afternoon, I couldn’t help but feel great. The bank in town announced 42 degrees, while the puddles and running water from melting snow supported warming temperatures.

Yippee! Spring is coming.

Ha.

You know this can’t have a happy ending.

Ben, the artist?

February 22, 2007 | Filed Under Eaglet | 4 Comments

Ben loves-loves-loves his truck book with built in Magnadoodle. He looks at the pictures, then forces an adult to draw him the firetruck, digger, or helicopter of his choice. After several times through the book, he might actually pick up the pencil to draw himself. Scribbles and other abstract art is his specialty. Last night, he sat on my lap with the book, while I watched Idol.
“Mommy, look,” he said, drawing my attention. “Look, Mommy. Mickey Mouse.”
Mickey Mouse by Ben Feb 21, 2007
Looking at this, I was stunned. It was, without a doubt, Mickey Mouse. I stared in wonder, thinking it must be a fluke. Had he just stumbled upon this in random scribbling? Looking at it though, I don’t see how. It looks so deliberate. I rushed to get the camera before his masterpiece was lost. Tonight, despite our best coaxing, we could not get him to draw for us. I am still quite amazed.

My idol

February 22, 2007 | Filed Under General | 2 Comments

Once again, I have been pulled into American Idol. I usually don’t care about the competition, the drama, or the endless commercials. I just like the singing. This year, I’ve found myself in the unique position of endorsing someone. I was convinced as soon as I saw that Lakisha Jones is from Flint, MI. Then she sang, and I was blown away. If I thought it was actually a singing competition, I’d think she would be a sure thing.
