TheDeuce is 12 weeks

I had my 12 week check up yesterday, and everything is looking good. My BP is low, and I haven’t even gained any weight yet (which isn’t a concern). I am measuring slightly large, but not twin-large. I can’t help but sigh with relief.
The highlight of the appointment was hearing TheDeuce’s heartbeat for the first time. The little pumper was beating 160/minute, which I believe according to wive’s tales means girl? I don’t know how it was possible, but I forgot how exciting it is the hear the heartbeat for the first time. I’ve been pretty neurotic lately about this pregnancy, especially worrying about displacing Benny as the baby in my life. Although I am still worried about how Ben will adjust to being 1 of 2, instead of his normal #1, hearing that heartbeat helped refocus my attention on TheDeuce, instead of Ben.
Our final frustration is the unknown gender. Like with Ben, we really want a pronoun to attach to the baby, because we don’t like the dreaded “it.” Even if it is ultimately wrong, we will definitely be eagerly awaiting the ultrasound and an answer to hotdog or hamburger.
As the carrier, I haven’t felt a real relief from the first trimester yet. My upset belly has continued, along with exhaustion. My house is desperate for a surge in energy and nesting instincts, absolutely desperate for it.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day and a super sappy, weepy woman is not a good combination. Everything from TV, the book I am reading, the memorial blocks at the local park, to my own memories and fears have had me in tears today. Sometimes, I just really need a good cry. Today, I can’t get enough. Anyhoo, I’m not even going to touch a memorial day tribute today. Can’t do it.
The last two days of our long weekend were passed rather uneventfully. I think Jason and I were having a competition to see who could sleep the most. Unlike me, Jason was actually useful in his waking hours. He mowed the lawn, worked on the pool, and cooked non-stop–can you say pulled pork with homemade BBQ sauce? YU-UM.
The weekend is now almost over, and though I am very sad to see it go, I have no regrets. We had great, low-stress family time, and we only have 4 days until our next weekend!

2 more days of weekend

Yesterday, my husband humored me by taking me maternity shopping in Minneapolis, 2 whole malls. Additionally, he kept Ben happy and entertained while I shopped. Pretty impressive.

I am 12 weeks today, according the to docs. I am ready for the first trimester to be over, though I know it doesn’t turn on/off like a switch.

Ben took only a short nap in the car on the ride home, so he spent rest of the evening laid back. He watched a lot of cartoons, and provided J and I some time to enjoy the deck and read. Ahhh…so nice.

Jason made beer can chicken for dinner, which was “ishish,” and he has more great BBQ plans this week. Feeling very lucky…

Very, very lucky. And there are still 2 more days of weekend to go.
Long weekend

Today, Jason and I started our long weekend a little early. His area was given the day off as a freebie. Since I have so much more vacation than he does, there was no way I could sit at work, while he was at home. Thus, today began our vacation.
I started the day much like most others, I woke up early with Benny, showered, took him to school, and signed on to work (I know, I know.) I let Jason sleep in, and when he woke, we hit the road. First, we took a pool water sample in for analysis and got a good grade. Next, we headed to piano lessons, followed by lunch and a movie. I can’t remember the last movie we saw in a theater. I was pretty disappointed by the selection, but we opted for Spiderman 3–definitely inferior to the previous installments. The popcorn and company was good though, so I won’t complain.
This evening, we took Benny and the dogs to the park for bubbles, ate yummy grilled tuna steaks, and took our first dip in the pool. Yes, it was too cold, but it was impossible for the boys to resist. I can’t wait for the weather to warm enough for me to join them.
I don’t know what else the weekend will bring, but today was a good start.
