Captain Underpants!

Potty training is still going pretty well. Ben’s only had 1 wet diaper (not counting night time) since Sunday. The other night we celebrated with big boy underpants (still in diapers most of the time). Unfortunately, promises of ice cream are not creating enough motivation for the #2 efforts. Ahhh well, baby steps…
An upbeat read

Another weekend has come to an end too soon, but we can take comfort in knowing that it was a really nice weekend. First, Ben is sleeping again. We weathered the storm, and he is sleeping like a champ. Also boosting our spirits, it has stopped raining. The sun was out all weekend, and it was perfectly temperate.
Friday night, I had a much needed Mommy’s night out, while Ben and Jason had a guy’s night. They hung out with Paul and rode mini-bikes around. Ben got to steer, break, and “work the throttle” (Jason was pushing him). All weekend, he has told me that you squeeze to stop and twist to make it go, accompanied by appropriate hand motions. Yup, I think I’m in for it…
Saturday, we daytripped to La Crosse to meet the new Mr. B. Max is a sweet, adorable, good little guy with the most kissable nose! It felt good to hold a baby again, and Jason and I left even more eager to have a new baby of our own. Even Ben seemed fond of the little guy, and we hope it bodes well for his big brother skills. We had a good visit with Max’s parents, who seem to be adjusting amazingly well to parenthood.
The big news of today was Ben’s sudden desire to use the potty. He asked to use the potty this morning and has continued to use the potty for #1 all day. We even brought it along tonight to a bonfire, and he used it at the party (sitting right next to the street, because whereever he was happy, I was happy). As if we didn’t already make enough of spectacle with that, Ben then went to give hugs and kisses to everyone as we left…even the dozen people we didn’t know! Luckily, there were more people charmed by it than drastically uncomfortable. Crossing fingers that the potty streak continues.
You take the good.

You take the bad. You take them both, and there you have the …
Now that I have it stuck in your heads until the end of time. I would like to say that my crazy mood swings are not only pregnancy induced, but work induced. I defy the most stable of beasts to survive the good news, bad news rollercoaster I’ve been on lately. Arrrgggg. Can’t I take a few minutes to enjoy my successes?
The actual point of this brief post that I am making to escape thinking about work for 5 minutes follows:
Growing up, I read the Narnia Chronicles about a dozen times. I found them when I was young (originally belonging to one or many of my older sibs) and reread them throughout high school, and once or twice in college. As college was a long time ago, and spurred by our pseudo-recent (time is meaningless) viewing of the Chronic-(what?)-les of Narnia movie, I purchased the entire series bond together into one honking book. The other night, as I sat in Ben’s room waiting impatiently for him to sleep), I started the final book “The Last Battle” only to discover it was utterly unfamiliar. How did I possibly go through a dozen readings of this series without realizing that I was missing a book? Apparently, with the order I read the books (written order and not chronological), I never even missed the last book. To be perfectly honest, I am kinda glad I missed out on the Last Battle as a kid. I much prefer to end with The Magician’s Nephew.
Yes, I realize that probably no one cares, but this discovery has rocked my world enough that I MUST share it with the Interweb. It can’t be the least interesting this ever published here (and by here I mean welikedogs and the Interweb).
Back to the rollercoaster.
Vernors

This one is for all of you that know the joy that is Vernors. At dinner, Jason was pouring a glass of Vernors on ice (one of the last of our rations from Dad and Bonnie’s last visit). Benny, noticing the extreme jumping fizz, announced “Daddy, it’s raining in your glass.”
In celebration of Jason getting Ben to bed without fuss, here’s some cutie pics in his big boy bed last weekend.
