Maybe it’s a mom thing

There was a song in the movie Super Troopers called Big Bear (by a band called Steak). Though it has been years since we saw the film, the song was something special. Periodically, Jason will sing it, and he recently taught it to Benny. It could just be me (and J), but we think it is one of the cutest things ever.
The lyrics–
Big Bear, he’s rough and tough. (Looking online it is actually iron tough, oops)
Big Bear, he doesn’t take any guff.
Big Bear, he’s a son of a gun.
He’s Big Bear.
Jason loves hearing Ben say “doesn’t take any guff,” while I die when I hear Ben attempting to say “son of a gun”. You can judge yourself with this video on YouTube:

The realization

Yesterday, Jason and I went to McDonald’s for lunch. As we are both really busy these days, we didn’t have time to go far or to go to a sit down place. Instead, we split faux chicken nuggets and a big mac. Sitting back at my desk 30 minutes later, I realized I was smiling. My mind boggled as I realized that my quickie McDonald’s lunch could put me into a dramatically better mood. Suddenly, I put the pieces together. It was the most time that Jason and I had spent alone together in over a week. We were able to relax and talk about work and current events and future plans. It drives me nuts that he turns his socks inside out when he takes them off, and it drives him nuts that I stack dryer lint in the laundry room, but we’re still best friends. I’m very glad he’s home.
His trip to New York was exhausting, but productive. He was glad he went, but also glad to be home. He arrived back on Friday, and Rod, Laurie, and Grandpa arrived Friday evening. It was as always, great to see them, and especially to see Ben play with them. The men folk accomplished a few chores around the house, while Laurie accomplished some productive shopping
We all managed to eat well, thanks, as always, to Jason. The bathroom situation (only 1, since Jason’s trip interfered with completion of the guest bath), while not ideal, worked out ok. Our visitors took it like troopers.
Now, we are back to routine, with Ben sleeping in his big boy bed again and work resuming on the bathroom. At least, for a few more days…

Not a good day for Eagles and locks.
Jason and I drove to work together, and he was carpooling to the airport. We left the van doors unlocked (and checked 3 times) so that he could grab his suitcase on the way out. Luckily, I was sitting by my phone when I got the frantic call that the doors were locked. Someone came by and locked our doors! I ran the keys down to him, and I assume he still made it to his plane.
Fast-forward 4 hours. I had 10 minutes to return my lunch tray and stop in the washroom before my next meeting. As soon as I closed my door, I reached down to realize that I wasn’t wearing my badge and keys. Doh! I have no idea when or why I removed it. Luckily, security was pretty quick to let me in, and I was only slightly late to my meeting.
Let’s hope I can get into the house when I get home.
