Umm…Merry Christmas?

Yes, I might be a little late this year with my wishes. Sorry about that. Even now, I am posting 1 handed, so it shall be brief.
Christmas was a bit of a let down here this year, as both Ben and Jason were sick 
Nonetheless, Ben left cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. In the morning, the look on his face was priceless. The cookies were gone, and a stack of presents had appeared!
We spent the morning eating bagels with lox and opening presents. Ben received his first computer, Tinkertoys, several trucks, games, puzzles, books, and of course, clothes. He was pretty thrilled. He helped us out by opening everyone’s gifts! Sammy wasn’t forgotten, as he also received some new toys and clothes.
We had planned a special dinner of crab legs, but the boys weren’t up to it. Instead, we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which Ben liked almost as much. We had the crab legs a few nights later.
Otherwise, we’ve been hanging around the house, nursing, playing, trying to sleep etc. Actually, Sammy is doing great. He’s started sleeping at night in 2-4 hour increments and is usually pretty laid back. He had his 1 week checkup on Thursday, and he is in good health. Amazingly, both he and I have avoided getting what Jason and Ben have so far. His weight was down to 8lbs 10oz on Thursday, so we had a weight check Friday and another Monday to ensure his weight is going up. He was up to 8lbs 11.5oz yesterday, which has me feeling slightly better. The doc wasn’t too worried about the weight, but I can’t help but worry.
Nursing is going well. It is a much different experience this time, though I am still far from enjoying it. Also much different from my experience with Ben, I am quickly recovering. It is amazing how drastically different my L&D experience was and how it has affected everything since.
Everyone wants to know how Ben is adjusting, and the answer is again, amazingly well. He was pretty hyper for the first couple of days, especially at the hospital. He’s also been whiney, though that could just as easily be a symptom of his cold. He alternates between super interested in Sammy, wanting to touch him, hug him and kiss him, and rushing to his side when he cries to completely indifferent. Luckily, he never seems resentful, jealous or angry. Oh, he is also very intrigued that Sammy “eats Mommy’s boobies.”
The other question we are getting is how the dogs are adjusting. The dogs are falling right into the roles they established with Ben. Other than an occasional sniff or lick, Rossi is indifferent, except at night when he is filled with nasty looks at being woken again and again. Scout is far more interesting, racing Ben to Sammy’s side when he is crying. They might be pretty naughty dogs, but we can forgive a lot when they are so great with the kiddos.
Today, Mom and Lisa are arriving for a week, and we have been counting down the minutes. A couple more pairs of hands will be much appreciated, especially with Jason returning to work so soon.

As I sat in the middle of a hormonal meltdown, Ben ran in and said “Mommy, look at my HOT bottom,” complete with a sassy tilted hip and a grin over his shoulder. How can you help but laugh at that? Despite a spirit-lifting, out of the blue poo on the potty Sunday morning, which earned him the long promised front-end loader, he is still pooping in diapers. For the record, it was the load he just dropped, which he was referring to as HOT.

We survived our first night at home, even with Sammy eating every hour. Luckily, my milk is coming in, so hopefully, he will get more satisfying meals soon. I put some more pictures on Flickr tonight from Sammy’s birthday, his homecoming day, and his first story today.
Homecoming

Today was homecoming for Sammy and I. He’s now been introduced to his house and dogs and is adjusting well. There will be a full labor and delivery story and MANY more pictures coming. Right now, we’re concentrating on soaking up Sammy snuggles, loving Benny up, establishing nursing, sleeping, and hopefully someday, final Christmas and house preparations. I wanted to take the time to check in though to thank everyone for their comments and support, and thank Matt for keeping everyone posted.
