Launched!

I’ve spent the weekend working on “Rachel Eagle Photography.” I now have business cards and brochures ready to go to the printers tomorrow and a newly designed website: http://www.racheleagle.com. You’ll notice it bears a striking resemblance to another of your favorite sites :-)

I guess I am really doing this.

Jason and I hate selling things, but sometimes it is necessary. For example, daycare fundraisers. For those that don’t know, both kids go to a non-profit daycare and we have at least one fundraiser each year to help pay for the extras-building improvements, new toys, etc.

This year, we are having a chili dinner and raffle on Feb 6. Soooooo…if anyone is interested in buying a raffle ticket, drop me a line.
Here’s the info:
Tickets are $10.
1st prize: $500
2nd prize: $250
3rd prize: $100
4th prize: $100 credit to daycare *
5th prize: $100 credit to daycare *
6th prize: $50
7th prize: Free photo session from Rachel Eagle Photography **
8th prize: $25
9th prize: $25
10th prize: $25
11th prize: $25

*Obviously, this is not useful to most of you, but we’d be happy to buy it from you :-)
** ::blush:: So, I am making it official. I’m working on my marketing and hope to launch the new website soon.

There. I can say I tried to sell tickets.

wait, sam is how old?

So, Mommy totally dropped the ball. Sammy turned 1 year and then 13 months without the required (by me) update. Here is my attempt to catch up.

Sammy is so much fun now! His personality is emerging, and he is a feisty, thoughtful, shy, loving, and gentle boy. It seems like those wouldn’t necessarily go together, but they do.

Sam is a superstar with the dogs, loving to give and get kisses, and always showing them nice hands. No smacks or tail pulling here. Rossi doesn’t even run at the sight of him! Don’t think he’s a pushover though. This kid is feisty and stands up to Ben. He is always following Ben, copying him, or tackling him. I can’t believe they are already wrestling! Ben’s interest and influence can be a mixed blessing. He shows Sam some naughty things and lures him to do things for which he is too young. He also patiently plays with him (sometimes) and give him hugs…though they sometimes turn into tackles.

Sam loves to be silly and a little bit devious, and that smile! Oh, it is contagious. I have a hard time scolding him with a straight face. He hides toys around the house, and we’re finding weird things in weird places. Likewise, he loves getting into the cupboards. When you visit, make sure you wash plasticware or pans before using them…they were likely used as a toy. I think I forgot how pleased with themselves kids are at this age. No matter what he does, Sam looks up at me as proud as pigsh!t. “Look Mommy, I brought you socks!” “Look Mommy, I’m putting on a hat!” “Look Mommy, I’m touching the TV, even though I know I shouldn’t!”

Around 1 year, Sammy went through a severe anxiety phase. He was afraid of strangers, afraid of Mommy leaving, and afraid of new things. He clung to me and cried. I was very glad we didn’t plan a big birthday party. The poor kid was afraid of his birthday hat, his balloons, and yes, even his cake (mostly the frosting)! Jason had to cut the cake to get him to the good stuff.

Luckily, the stage came and went pretty quickly, though painfully. Slowly, he has turned into a strong willed and independent Eagle. It started with him sauntering into daycare on his own. Now, he comfortably tackles PipSqueaks, Daddy’s office, the children’s museum and other places. It is nice to have that growth removed from my leg. He’s a shy boy though and doesn’t show his toothy grin to just anyone. Most strangers get the patented Sammy furrowed brow stare. Once he gets to know you, he is very affectionate. Sammy likes to snuggle and give slobbery kisses. I love stretching my arms and have a grinning, squealing, Sammy run to me for a hug. I’ll gladly keep him a Mommy’s boy for a little while longer.

Sammy’s communication is blossoming! His words include: Mama, Dada, hi, bye-bye, uh-oh, thank you, and peek-a-boo. He now signs “more” and shakes his head “no”. Instead of him throwing a fit and throwing things, he can point and sign more to let us know what he wants. He can shake his head to indicate he doesn’t want what I am offering instead of throwing it across the room. At his recent doctor’s appointment, he shook his head as she approached him with a tongue depressor. He seemed to say, “You, no. I don’t know you.” It was really cute.

Sammy sleeps through the night in his own crib consistently. At bedtime, I can put him down not yet asleep. He may fuss for a minute or not. I know, this is the way it could have been long ago, but I am happy it is this way now. Nap times are not so great. He only takes 1 short nap a day, and needs much more. I am experimenting with his schedule to see if we can improve the duration.

With his 10 teeth, he eats everything. He’s had all no-no foods with no negative effects (peanuts, shellfish, etc). I’m trying to get him acclimated to silverware, which is still an adventure. Usually he ends up with the spoon in one hand, and handfuls of food in the other hand. Yogurt is one of his favorite foods, and you should see him when he is finished! He drinks cow milk, and nurses before bed and in the morning (ok, more when I’m home with him all day). His big appetite has helped him grow to 24 pounds and 31 inches tall.

Some big boy moves since the last update include his first flight (to Texas), a forward facing carseat, and no more bottles (cups only). Sadly, he’s also had his first antibiotic. He had impetigo (though I am skeptical). He’s been sick several times in the last month. I’ve been home with him for the past several days, and today, he seems good as new. Though it is frustrating to miss work and sad to see him not feeling well, I’ve enjoyed spending time with him.

My sweet Sammers is growing up so fast, but I am comforted by the sweet boy he is becoming. I can’t wait to see what the next month, the next year, and the next decade will bring. All I can say is that I am so blessed. So very blessed.

goodbye gymnastics

January 19, 2009 | Filed Under Benny, Photos | 1 Comment

Next Saturday Ben starts basketball through community education, which conflicts with gymnastics. Though he still wanders off and is pretty distracted, I think he’s had fun and learned a few things.

After our make up sessions the next 2 Tuesdays, I’m not sure when or if he’ll take gymnastics again. A few pictures from his last? class:
