Tired of playing blocks? No problem, just dump them out and put the bag on your head. Add some “vroom vroom” sounds, and you have a motorcycle helmet. This is playtime, Sammy style!
Sam is growing and changing so quickly now, that I can barely keep up. He has so many words that I can’t keep count, and can express complex ideas and emotions. He also just babbles about nonstop. He loves to hear himself, and is LOUD. I can’t remember if this is a 2 year old trait, or simply Sammy. He can count to 10, knows some shapes (circle, triangle, star, heart, oval), and knows his colors (red, blue, green, yellow, purple, pink).
Though he still gives great hugs, at 2, he is too busy to snuggle. Once again, we have to settle for story time if we want contact. Luckily, he loves books. Potty training has pretty well stalled, both on his part and ours. We’ll get back to it some time…
Ben is his best friend and worst enemy. They love playing together, though it often dissolves into wrestling. We are working hard on getting Sam to be a little more gentle with “Brudder” (Ben calls him “Buddy”). We are also working very hard on sharing. It happens sometimes…
He is a great eater (surprise!) The only foods he seems to not care for are shrimp and lettuce. He loves his “cow nook” and eats grown up portions of everything! He’s not great with silverware yet…using a spoon half the time and having little luck with a fork.
He proves to us that he is 2 several times a day. Throwing tantrums and wanting what he doesn’t want and not wanting what he does want. (That makes sense to anyone with a 2 year old). From listening to Mommy and Daddy, Ben has learned the fine art of manipulating him. “Well, I’m going to play in the bedroom.” And suddenly he is going where Ben wants. We use this for changing diapers, putting on coats, going bye-bye and countless other things throughout the day. Sam has learned to dread the words “time out” and embrace the word “sorry,” delivered with a hug.
My Sammer Bammer is no longer a baby, a concept we are all trying to grasp. I’ve stopped calling him baby, and likewise, he’s stopped identifying himself as a baby. He is now proudly “Lil’ Dammy!” Baby exists only in his baby doll and Mommy’s belly. As much as I love my independent little boy, he’ll always be my baby in my heart.
what is he thinking?

bump watch ~ 24 weeks/Minneapolis

January 30, 2010 | Filed Under Benny, Photos, Sammy, TheFinale | 1 Comment

We had another lovely check up today last week, and bump and I are doing fine. BP 102/60 (aka good). Heartbeat 160bmp (aka good). I’ve gained 11 pounds total, which is within the ok range, and baby was rocking and rolling.
I’m getting tons of movement now, which I love. I am also getting lots of braxton hicks and acid reflux which I like not so much. I’m also having this weird ache in my thigh/groin area, which leaves me limping some days. Too much limping and I tweak my back. I basically feel like an old woman.
I’m getting very eager to have a baby. The first trimester went by so quickly, but now the pregnancy seems to be crawling. I can’t wait to hold TheFinale (who may officially have a name)!

2 weeks ago we took a day trip to Minneapolis. First, we headed to the Modern Cafe. Featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, it is a hip old diner with local, quality, unique food. In case you’ve never noticed it, we like food. We also like places to get good food where we can take our kids. This place fit the bill. The kids had banana nut french toast, which they devoured. I had the “pampered eggs” which had thick-cut bacon, chives, and cream cheese in them. Can you say yog? In addition to half my food, Jason had the pot roast hash. Mmmm… also recommended.
We will be back (hopefully for lunch/dinner and when I can partake in their impressive wine/beer list!
I took some fun pictures (including the belly shot, which I took in the bathroom while I waited for Ben!)

After lunch, we went to the Minnesota Children’s Museum; it was our first visit. We’d like to make it a yearly winter trip in Jan or Feb.

It only took 24 weeks to get the first belly shot of this pregnancy, and all it took was waiting for Benny in the bathroom at the Modern Cafe :-) Wow. I look tired.
