Sammers ~ 2 years 1 month 10 days

Tired of playing blocks? No problem, just dump them out and put the bag on your head. Add some “vroom vroom” sounds, and you have a motorcycle helmet. This is playtime, Sammy style!
Sam is growing and changing so quickly now, that I can barely keep up. He has so many words that I can’t keep count, and can express complex ideas and emotions. He also just babbles about nonstop. He loves to hear himself, and is LOUD. I can’t remember if this is a 2 year old trait, or simply Sammy. He can count to 10, knows some shapes (circle, triangle, star, heart, oval), and knows his colors (red, blue, green, yellow, purple, pink).
Though he still gives great hugs, at 2, he is too busy to snuggle. Once again, we have to settle for story time if we want contact. Luckily, he loves books. Potty training has pretty well stalled, both on his part and ours. We’ll get back to it some time…
Ben is his best friend and worst enemy. They love playing together, though it often dissolves into wrestling. We are working hard on getting Sam to be a little more gentle with “Brudder” (Ben calls him “Buddy”). We are also working very hard on sharing. It happens sometimes…
He is a great eater (surprise!) The only foods he seems to not care for are shrimp and lettuce. He loves his “cow nook” and eats grown up portions of everything! He’s not great with silverware yet…using a spoon half the time and having little luck with a fork.
He proves to us that he is 2 several times a day. Throwing tantrums and wanting what he doesn’t want and not wanting what he does want. (That makes sense to anyone with a 2 year old). From listening to Mommy and Daddy, Ben has learned the fine art of manipulating him. “Well, I’m going to play in the bedroom.” And suddenly he is going where Ben wants. We use this for changing diapers, putting on coats, going bye-bye and countless other things throughout the day. Sam has learned to dread the words “time out” and embrace the word “sorry,” delivered with a hug.
My Sammer Bammer is no longer a baby, a concept we are all trying to grasp. I’ve stopped calling him baby, and likewise, he’s stopped identifying himself as a baby. He is now proudly “Lil’ Dammy!” Baby exists only in his baby doll and Mommy’s belly. As much as I love my independent little boy, he’ll always be my baby in my heart.

Yay for blog updates, cute photos, fun trips, babies, and not-babies-anymore.
I almost spit my water out at “lil’ Dammy”! We miss you all.
