Rachel and I met at Michigan Tech in 1997 during her first year; my second. It was my first year as a resident assistant, and she was assigned to my hall. I thought she was very cute and witty. She has a lot of attitude (those who know her can attest to that!) and I marvelled at how she could be so cute and bitchy at the same time.

We became friends very quickly, but were both dating other people, so I think neither of us thought of the other as available.

In the fall of 1999 it was becoming obvious to both of us (independently) that we should be together, but we kept it to ourselves for some time. Instead we just spent as much time together as possible, geeking around waiting for the inevitable. We took long rides in the Keewenaw, looked for new places, talked and generally tried to destroy my truck. We knew each other's schedule and met between classes. We took the longest possible way home in all situations to spend more time together, all the while pretending we weren't in love. It was excruciating, sometimes pathetic, ridiculous, sad and exciting.

We have been together ever since, for the last three years.

We met on a humid day in August, as my mother, sister and I trudged boxed up four flights of stairs to the room that would be my home for the next two years. He walked down the hall, carrying his helmet and introduced himself. Jason was my new Resident Assistant.

Jason and I soon became friends, sharing an offbeat sense of humor and a toast to "midgets and amputees."

After two years of friendship, Jason and I decided we should find out if we could be more. Luckily, we soon found what Jake had been hinting at for quite a while; we were a great couple.
